Thousands of people were treated to quite a spectacle on Saturday after a massive meteor appeared in the night sky.
Space is a wonderfully fascinating place and, despite its vastness, every now and then people on Earth are treated to quite a show.
On Saturday (May 18), if you were in Portugal or Spain you might have spotted a massive glimmer in the sky.

Most impressively, as it was night time, the brightness from the meteor briefly lit up the sky almost as if it was daytime.
As we live in the age of technology, there were more than a few people who were recording at the exact moment the meteor shot across the sky.
Many people have begun sharing their videos on social media.
One video showed a woman driving down a road with her car dashcam catching the meteor and how much it brightened the sky.

Another showed a girl outside dancing before the meteor shoots directly above her, creating a light blue hue.
Another clip showed a person recording at a party that was being held outside before the space rock comes into view.
Early reports have claimed that the blue flash could be seen darting through the night sky for hundreds of miles.
Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics, said: “This is insane.”
“At the moment, it has not been confirmed if it hit the Earth’s surface however some reports say it may have fallen near the town of Castro Daire. Other reports say it was closer to Pinheiro.”

The two places are roughly 200 miles apart.
Users on X, remarked at the spectacle. “Portugal is so beautiful that it deserves those sparkling flashes of light, lighting up its sky,” one person commented.
“They look pretty, but that kind of reminds me of the one that went over Russia. But that. one blew out all the windows. They look pretty, but they're very dangerous,” another said.

“Saw this happen in person once. It was dark that night, and then suddenly it was like someone flipped on all the lights at once.
“Truly surreal to watch the night sky light up like the sun just came out in an instant.” a third wrote.
One sceptic said: “Same month as the aurora borealis. Why are all these once in a lifetime events happening so close to each other? Makes you wonder if the solar eclipse was a warning."
