Mark Carney, the next Prime Minister of Canada, has vowed to win the ongoing trade war with the US and immediately hit out at Donald Trump after being named as Justin Trudeau’s successor on Sunday (March 9).
The former head of UK and Canada central banks won the race to lead Canada's Liberal Party, making him the first successful candidate to become PM with no real political background.
Carney is expected to become prime minister in the coming days and will lead their Liberal Party going into the next general election, which is expected to be called in the coming weeks, BBC News reports.

And after accepting the opportunity to lead Canada, Carney wasted no time in slamming President Trump.

The US President has signed off on an order to impose 'catastrophic' tariffs on Canada to hold the country 'accountable' for what Trump says is their failed promise to 'halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the US.'
All goods imported from the countries have had a 25 percent tariff attached, and Canadian energy products a further 10 percent tariff.

The 47th POTUS said the only 'solution' for Canada to dodge the tariff would for it to become the 51st State of the US.
In a speech on Sunday, Carney said: "America is not Canada. And Canada never, ever, will be part of America in any way, shape or form.
"We didn’t ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves. The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country.
"Think about it. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life."

The incoming prime minister added: "I know these are dark days. Dark days brought on by a country we can no longer trust.
"We're getting over the shock, but let us never forget the lessons: we have to look after ourselves and we have to look out for each other. We need to pull together in the tough days ahead."

Outgoing Prime Minister Trudeau gave an emotional speech on Sunday before handing over the baton to Carney.

He said, as per New York Post: "These past ten years have been challenging. Crisis after crisis has been thrown at Canadians, but through every crisis, Canadians have shown who they are. We’ve pulled together, we’ve stood up for each other and every single time we’ve emerged even stronger.
"And now, as Canadians face — from our neighbor — an existential challenge, an economic crisis, Canadians are showing exactly what we are made of."
