The spectator realized they had made a terrible mistake when an official began scolding them seconds later.

A massive blunder by a golf spectator left commentators scratching their heads in a clip that has resurfaced on social media.

For a lot of sport fans, being able to have a memento like a jersey or game ball is a dream come true. However, one woman’s joy at ‘discovering’ a tournament golf ball quickly turned to horror.

In July 2022, during the Evian Championship in Évian-les-Bains, France, American golfer Nelly Korda found herself in the middle of the bizarre incident.

After a stroke that saw her ball land amongst the trees and a walking path, a spectator decided to pick up the ball and began smiling and walking off with it, stunning the commentators. Check it out:

“It’s not a souvenir!” said commentator Grant Boone after groaning after the woman’s actions.

He added that she was ‘in big trouble now.’ as an official quickly confronted her and scolded her and ask her to put the ball back exactly where she picked it up.

After placing the ball back down she stared mortified at the official, finally understanding her blunder.

The clip has again begun circulating on social media and received more than 1.3 million views on X, since being posted to the crazy clips page on Saturday (December 9).

“It’s not a souvenir!” said commentator Grant Boone.

Viewers were both shocked and left in hysterics after watching the clip.

“Hahaha she should’ve tossed it closer to the green. Just so we could see them debate rules for the rest of 2023,” one user commented.

“She thought this was Cricket, where everybody would struggle to be the one to catch the ball,” another added.

“When will fans at a golf tournament realize if there's a golf ball on the ground not to pick it up,” another commented.

“No, a spectator picked up the ball. A golf fan would know better,” joked another.

“I read that the course borders a popular walking area. She probably knows nothing about the game," another user said, defending the woman from the more critical comments she had received.

"Funny but not a super big deal. One thread people were talking about violence against this lady."

Upon arriving at the scene, Korda was made aware of the incident and was afforded a better lie so I suppose it sort of worked out in the end.

She proceeded to double bogey, the only one she carded at any of the 72 holes of the event.
