A French pole vaulter has reacted after losing out in the Olympics due to his penis knocking the bar off.

French Olympian Anthony Ammirati seemed as though he had made it over the bar at the pole vault, but as he passed by his bulge caught the bar, sending it tumbling to the ground.

The moment went viral online, with many people all commenting exactly the same thing - he might have lost the pole vault but it seems as though he won in other areas.

Up to that moment, Ammirati had already cleared vaults of 5.40 meters and 5.60 meters. But when it got to the 5.70 meters, his chances were scuppered.

Many people on social were left in stitches at the reaction of commentators as they tried to make it through the awkward moment.

One wrote: "They definitely knew why but just couldn't say it out loud."

Another posted: "Anthony Ammirati failed the bar and the commentators are clearly having a hard time acknowledging what happened. I'M DYING."

A third commented: "The struggle to keep it professional when it's so painfully obvious is too real," said another.

Now, the athlete has taken to social media with a TikTok video reflecting on the incident.

In a short five second clip posted to the platform Ammirati can be seen sitting down to a meal.

The athlete simply tucks into his food whole absent-mindedly staring off into space as he chews.

A caption superimposed on the video reads in French: “POV: you create more buzz for your package than for your performances."

The video also has a note underneath, again in French, which reads: “I don’t know if I should take it well or not."

Ammirati has previously spoken about the loss to the French Athletics Federation.

He said: "It’s a big disappointment. I was at 100% physically, but I missed a little bit of the pole.

“The conditions were good. It was the first time that I attacked the competition with no stress.

"Because I was a total outsider, I only had one objective: to play with the public. I was almost there.”

He added: "I’m just glad I can make people smile and laugh. And who knows, maybe this will be the start of something amazing!”

Many people also shared their thoughts on the incident.

A lot of people wrote simply: "A win is a win", while another said: "You lose but you win."

Meanwhile, someone else commented urging Calvin Klein to 'give this man an advertising campaign immediately'.
