People are scratching their heads and questioning their reality after spotting some rather bizarre images of the sunset in Florida.

The world is full of all manner of wonders, so it is pretty understandable why ancient societies would have the most wonderful explanations for naturally occurring phenomena.

But thanks to the technological advancements of man we don’t do that anymore...

instead, we insist that all life and existence is a lie and that we are actually living in simulation or computer program.

While this concept isn’t exactly new, it definitely started to pop up a lot more in the public consciousness since following Keanu Reaves’s The Matrix film - funny that.

But anyway, the sun in Florida has got people freaking out just a little bit and left them questioning their reality.

In some images it looks as if there are two suns, in others it looks a really dark and vibrant orange or red, and in others it appears misty white and red.

One Twitter user simply remarked: “We live in a simulation.”

Another said: “In my opinion our sun has been compromised.”

With a third writing: “Broken matrix.”

Now, before you start screaming for Morpheus or Neo to come save you, meteorologists have stepped up to explain why in certain conditions, the sun can appear so weird.

Sharing his own images, Wink News meteorologist Matt Devitt explained on Facebook: “FLORIDA SUNSET! 🔴🌴 The Sun looks like Mars in these unique shots this weekend in Jacksonville. The bright red color is because of Canadian wildfire smoke aloft!”

Other people on social media also pointed out that dust from desserts can also cause a similar effect and have done so in the past.

Another meteorologist explained in detail what exactly causes the sun to look so red and how smoke can impact that.

Speaking on WQAD News 8, Andrew Stutzke explained how wildfire smoke can make the sun appear different.

He said: “Smoke in the atmosphere, most of it stays in the lower atmosphere but a good chunk of it can make it up part of the atmosphere and that is what we are dealing with here locally [In Florida].

“Here is why the sun looks different, we are talking about this visible light spectrum, its called ROYGBIV, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, the name of all the different colors of light the human eye is capable of see.

“On an average day we are seeing a lot of orange, yellows and greens, these are the easiest color for our eyes to see.

“What happens though is you get this wildfire smoke in sky and it blocks the shorter wavelengths (green, blue, indigo, violet), they are not as long as wavelengths of light.

“So when you block these out guess what you are left with, ROY, red, orange and yellow, that is why that is the majority of the color you are seeing with the sun, not just now but especially with the sunsets and sunrises.”

The more you know.
