Ted Cruz has beer can thrown at him and gets booed by crowd during parade

Republican Senator felt the wrath of one critic while celebrating Houston Astros' World Series win on the back of a truck.

Ted Cruz has narrowly avoided serious injury after a heckler threw a beer can at his head.

The Republican Senator was on the back of a truck celebrating the Houston Astros' win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.

It was meant to be a celebratory parade through the streets of Houston, however one person took the opportunity to show their discontent towards Cruz.

Viral footage has captured the moment the beer can was lobbed through the air and was swatted out of the way just in the nick of time.

Police have confirmed 'the beer can struck the Senator in the chest/neck area'.

You can see Cruz's staff point into the crowd where the alcoholic projectile came from and it looks like the Senator wasn't harmed in the incident.

He posted a statement on Twitter, saying: "As always I'm thankful for the Houston Police and Capitol Police for their quick action.

"I’m also thankful that the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm."

But, if that wasn't enough for Cruz to endure, he also suffered fairly loud and intense boos from the rest of the people in the crowd as the parade moved through Houston.

The discontent with the Republican Senator was palpable on a day that was meant to be all about the baseball World Series win.

According to NBC, a suspect has been 'arrested on suspicion of assault' and his name will be release later.
