    An influencer from California has divided opinions after sharing her controversial birthday dinner etiquette views online.

    Christina 'Tinx' Najjar has received split views on TikTok after sharing that she believes whoever is celebrating their birthday should pay for everyone else's dinner during their special celebrations. The video quickly racked up the views, with thousands of users taking to the comments to voice their opinions.

    Christina, who stitched her video with user @Sean Lans who was discussing how being expected to attend a really expensive restaurant for someone's birthday is 'unfair', started by saying “It's my opinion that, if you invite a person to a restaurant of your choosing for your birthday you should pay for everybody,”

    The video was shared to her 1.5 million followers on the social media platform, where she added “I know that is going to be deeply unpopular, but I just think that you can’t pick a restaurant and ask people to come and celebrate you and pay for themselves.”

    The video was shared with her 1.5 million followers on the social media platform, where she added: “I know that is going to be deeply unpopular, but I just think that you can’t pick a restaurant and ask people to come and celebrate you and pay for themselves.”

    She also said that she found it crazy that some people expect guests to “split the cost of the birthday person’s food.”

    “If I invite a group of people somewhere to celebrate me, that’s my treat, I organized it and I’m expecting them to come,” she said.

    “To pick an expensive restaurant and expect everybody to pay, and in this person’s case, then get p**sy when they say, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t afford that,’ is really bad manners.”

    However, the comments on the video aren't all backing her up.

    'This is a crazy take,' said one user.

    "I would never let MY friend pay for ME on THEIR birthday ever," another wrote, adding: "What kind of friends would allow that?"

    A third suggested that the OP was 'rich' and therefore could afford to pay for everyone's dinner on her big day.

    However, some people think Christina's totally right with her views.

    "This is actual proper etiquette, but I find younger generations don’t abide by this," argued one person.

    Another wrote, "This is how I was raised — it feels strange to ask people to pay on my birthday!"

    Some people have since pointed out that the difference in opinions could be down to culture. For example, in Europe and Asia, it is often customary for the person celebrating their birthday to pay to have guests at their own celebrations.
