Historian Allan Lichtman realized live on YouTube that he’d made a mistake after predicting Vice President Kamala Harris would win the presidential election.
Brooklyn-born Lichtman, 77, is famed for co-developing a fairly accurate prediction system to determine the outcome of presidential elections in the United States with his friend, geophysicist Vladimir Keilis-Borok.
The history professor, who is often dubbed the ‘Nostradamus of US presidential elections’, has used his Keys to the White House system to successfully predict the outcome of elections from 1984 to 2020.

However, the poll master’s predictions have been wrong on two occasions, first in 2000 and now in 2024.
Ahead of the 60th quadrennial presidential election, Lichtman claimed that Harris, 60, would block her Republican opponent Donald Trump, 78, from serving a second term in office.
But while live-streaming election night with his son Sam, it dawned on Litchman that Harris was not going to be called President-Elect.

While the pair waited for the results to roll in, Sam stated around five hours and 49 minutes into the broadcast: “I think she lost. I hate to say that because I’ve been hopeful all night but I think she lost.
“Me too,” replied his father. “I think it’s 90 percent over. Something ridiculous would have to happen.”
While they waited for the last remaining votes to be counted, the history professor told his subscribers there would be no YouTube live stream tomorrow (November 7).
He claimed the show was ‘canceled’, revealing he had planned instead to ‘sleep all day’.

“I'm heartened from all the kind emails I've been getting, a lot of people say we should keep doing this show,” he added, thanking fans for their unwavering support.
Meanwhile, Sam confessed: “I can’t believe it. I’m kind of in shock right now.
“I’ve been hopeful this whole time…I think it’s gone. There’s just not enough room to make up… I just can’t wrap my head around it.”
Lichtman confessed during the YouTuber stream that his ‘Keys [to victory] had been wrong on this occasion, despite Harris meeting eight of the 13.
In an earlier interview with the New York Times, the social media star admitted Trump had five of the metrics working against him, thus claiming Harris was the likely winner.

“A lot of people believe the future of the country is on the line here, and the democracy of America could be a thing of the past,' Lichtman concluded.
“I don’t think that’s an illegitimate fear. I’m so worried about the future of our election, you know... democracy is precious but like all precious things, it can be destroyed.”
Despite claiming a recap show was not happening, Lichtman took to social media to confirm a broadcast was in fact going ahead.
“I want to thank all the loyal members, subscribers and viewers of our live show,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We will go on and are assessing last night’s results.
