A woman initially charged with methamphetamine possession was released weeks later when lab analysis proved she did nothing wrong.

Ashley Gabrielle Huff was 23 when a police officer arrested her for what they believed was drug possession.

A member of the Gainesville police department spotted a spoon in their vehicle and for reasons known to them, believed the dried residue on it was meth.

Huff repeatedly maintained it was simple SpaghettiO’s sauce but this seemingly didn’t stop the woman from being taken to jail.

She was arrested on July 2 back in 2014 and released a month later after she was vindicated by lab results.

Hall County assistant public defender Chris van Rossem attempted to explain how on earth this mistake ended up happening.

He said: “I think she said it had been SpaghettiOs.

“From what I understand, she was a passenger in a car and had a spoon on her, near her, and I guess the officer, for whatever reason, thought there was some residue.

“She’s maintained all along that there’s no way in hell that’s any sort of drug residue or anything like that.”

I mean... yes, if you know you'd simply been eating some lunch off your spoon rather than doing illicit drugs, you would firmly affirm your innocence.

Rossem added: “I think what the unfortunate part about her case is that she was probably willing to take the felony to close out her case so that she get out of jail, even though she always maintained innocence."

Huff had no prior arrests prior to the incident and it had a significant impact on her life according to reports.

Due to her jail time, Huff missed her own child’s birthday and lost her job at Waffle House. At the time, Huff was considering legal action against the police department, it is not clear if she ever went through with this decision.

The story has repeatedly been discussed and shared on social media with people baffled by the whole incident.

“Any cop that mistakes spaghetti O sauce for meth shouldn't have a job,” one person wrote on a Reddit post about the issue.

“Im gonna start carrying around a bunch of spoons with dried up yogurt residue on it and just wait to be arrested. Few days in jail for a fat payout? Sure,” joked another.

“How can someone be so incompetent, that they think spaghetti-o sauce is meth?” a third wrote.
