Senator Bernie Sanders has warned American workers Elon Musk and 'his friends' 'don't give a damn about you' and to take note after DOGE's treatment of federal workers.
With Elon Musk being set to step down from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) when his 130 days as a special government employee (SGE) come to an end, federal employees may be able to breathe a temporary sigh of relief - or at least, the ones that are left.
During his stint as head of DOGE, Musk worked alongside president Donald Trump to issue an ultimatum email and ultimately fire over 25,000 federal workers - although, they were later re-hired after two judges ruled the actions of DOGE in waving them goodbye were actually 'illegal'.

However, senior US senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, has since spoken out, warning Musk's treatment of federal employees could indicate further problems in the future.
In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, Sanders warned: "I want you to think about this, if Musk can do this to federal employees - some of them are in unions, some of them have worked for years - what do you think he's going to be doing when artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics comes for your job?
"Guess what? The job you have today ain't going to be here in 10 or 15 years. And you think Musk and his friends are saying, 'Oh my goodness, how do we protect American workers from the explosion in technology we're seeing?' They don't give a damn about you."

Sanders reiterated if federal employees have been treated in such a way, 'think about what they could do to people in the private sector'.
Denying he's a 'luddite' - a person opposed to new technology or ways of working - Sanders added he thinks 'technology has many positive things to say'.

However, he resolved: "But we have got to understand that new technology, AI, robotics, has got to work for working people, not just for the billionaires and Mr Musk."

And Sanders isn't the only person to have spoken out in warning about the future of AI - Bill Gates, the Microsoft founder himself, has also revealed his fears.
Gates previously said during an appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show that while AI will be able to help with 'great medical advice' and 'great tutoring', it also 'brings so much change'.
He resolved: "I love the way it'll drive innovation forward, but I think it's a little bit unknown if we'll be able to shape it.
"Legitimately, people are like 'wow, this is a bit scary'. It's completely new territory."
