A California man who is suing 50 women who spoke about him being a bad date has received an update on the first of his cases.
Stewart Lucas Murrey launched his lawsuits against the multiple women after they allegedly began talking about him on a Facebook group titled 'Are We Dating The Same Guy? Los Angeles'.
The group is designed to alert women to men in the dating pool who might be 'liars, cheaters, abusers' or generally 'toxic', and Kelly Gibbons used the page to share details of a phone call she'd shared with Murrey in 2022.

In her post, Gibbons said she 'wouldn't want [her] friend going out with someone like that', and the post quickly gained traction as other women shared their own claims about Murrey.
After the post gained attention, Murrey responded by hitting 50 women involved in the post with lawsuits featuring Gibbons as the lead defendant.
A total of nine women are named in the suit, while the rest referred to as "Does 1-50."

The women have been accused of having 'conspired to harm the plaintiff’s reputation', with Murrey is suing for damages amounting to $2.6 million for 'emotional distress and pain and suffering'.
Murrey has accused the women of ruining his love life, damaging his reputation and costing him millions in missed job opportunities.
On Monday (8 April), Murrey got an update on the case after the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles considered 'the moving papers, all documents relating to the motion, and oral arguments'.

The case assessed on Monday involved defendant Vanessa Valdes, who told The Times the lawsuit felt like an effort 'to drown us in paperwork'.
“He wants our bank statements, text messages, every group chat we ever had," she said. "He’s also asking for phone numbers, addresses, email addresses of people we don’t even know. It’s overly broad and irrelevant.”
After assessing the case, the course decided to throw out the lawsuit against Valdes, ruling she had done nothing wrong by sharing her opinion of Murrey on the Facebook group.

Though the first ruling has gone in the women's favor, they noted that the lawsuits have cost them money in a GoFundMe page seeking help to cover the cost of their legal fees.
However, some of the women involved in the case stood by their decision to post about Murrey during a news conference held last month, when they said they were 'just speaking their truth and, unfortunately for him, it was not favourable'.
LADbible Group has contacted Murrey for further comment.
