Donald Trump referenced a Kamala Harris meme during the second presidential debate in the 2024 election.

Taking place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Trump and Harris met in person for the first time today (September 10) to debate issues ranging from abortion to the United States' economy.

Despite one of the debate's protocols being that microphones would be turned off every time a different candidate was speaking, Trump and Harris could both be heard talking over each other at different points when their microphones were supposed to be muted.

In one moment during the debate, Trump was claiming that Harris supports defunding the police. At that point, she could be heard saying that his statement was 'not true' despite her microphone being muted.

Her reaction prompted Trump to say: "I'm talking now. If you don't mind. Please. Does that sound familiar?"

The former president was seemingly referencing a Harris quote from the 2020 presidential election.

In October 2020, Harris and former vice president Mike Pence partook in a vice presidential debate. At one point during the event, Pence interrupted Harris while she was giving an answer on coronavirus to which she replied: "Mr. Vice President, I'm speaking."

Her reply swiftly went viral online and became a meme at the time.

Trump appeared to call back to the meme tonight, with social media users noting the reference.

"He's trying to be her," one user on Twitter wrote.

Despite Trump and president Joe Biden not shaking hands in the first debate for the 2024 election, Harris and Trump notably shook hands tonight with the vice president introducing herself and saying, "Let's have a good debate."

Trump responded, "Nice to see you. Have fun."

Biden dropped out of the presidential race in July, writing in a statement: "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

"I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me," the president added.

"I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America."

Moments after releasing his statement, Biden followed up to announce his 'full support and endorsement' for Harris to be the nominee for the Democratic party going forward.
