Lawyers who are in support of Donald Trump have urged the Republican president to declare a national emergency ahead of the mid-term elections later this year.

There's no doubt that the current president is not the biggest fan of the electoral format and has long called for reform when it comes to how Americans vote.

Trump never actually conceded defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, claiming voter fraud played a huge part in the result - something which is completely unfounded.

The president has called for further ID requirements when it comes to voting, as he penned in a Truth Social post earlier this month: "The Democrats refuse to vote for Voter I.D., or Citizenship. The reason is very simple — They want to continue to cheat in Elections.

"This was not what our Founders desired. I have searched the depths of Legal Arguments not yet articulated or vetted on this subject, and will be presenting an irrefutable one in the very near future.

"There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not! Also, the People of our Country are insisting on Citizenship, and No Mail-In Ballots, with exceptions for Military, Disability, Illness, or Travel."

Now, The Washington Post is reporting that Peter Ticktin and a ton of other pro-Trump lawyers have argued that alleged interference from China in the 2020 election gives Trump the right to declare a national emergency.

The draft states: "There is now clear and compelling evidence from court cases and forensic analysis that these threats have not been mitigated but instead have intensified. This constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."

It should be worth noting there's no evidence China interfered in the 2020 presidential election campaign, which saw Biden become president.

While Ticktin noted to The Washington Post that Congress and individual states usually decides on legal side of elections, the pro-Trump lawyer feels drastic action is required.

He went on to claim: "But here we have a situation where the president is aware that there are foreign interests that are interfering in our election processes. That causes a national emergency where the president has to be able to deal with it."

As per the Mail Online, Abigail Jackson, a White House spokesperson, said: "President Trump is committed to ensuring that Americans have full confidence in the administration of elections, and that includes totally accurate and up-to-date voter rolls free of errors and unlawfully registered non-citizen voters."

UNILAD has reached out to the White House for comment.
