Only one person survived the devasting crash in Belle Glade, Florida

Nine people from the same family have died following a devastating car crash in Florida.

On Monday (August 5), an SUV carrying ten people veered off the road, crashed into a guardrail and landed upside down in a canal in Belle Grade.

Jorden Hall, 26, has been named as the sole survivor of the ordeal. She was hospitalized in a serious condition following the crash.

The other nine sadly didn't make it; four of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining five were transported to hospital but later died, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

A statement issued by police on August 6 read: "Last night in Belle Glade, a tragic crash occurred at the 5800 Block of Hatton Highway, resulting in multiple fatalities. Tragically, Fire Rescue confirmed 4 victims were pronounced deceased on the scene, and 6 were transported to a local hospital where 5 additional victims passed away. We have one survivor for a total of 10 victims.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this heartbreaking incident."

Those who died have since been named as Pamela Wiggins, 56, Leiana Alyse Hall, 30, Anyia Monique Lee Tucker, 21, Imani Hall, eight, Kamdien Edwards, five, Yasire Smith, five, Zaire Mack, three, and Naleia Tucker, one.

Pamela had been driving the car at the time and none of the passengers were wearing seatbelts, as per a police report.

It's said all the deceased were part of the same family and were en route to another family member's birthday party.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Pamela's daughter to help pay for their funeral costs. At the time of writing, the fundraiser has received over $100,000 worth of donations.

It remains unclear exactly how the crash happened, but Former District 6 Commissioner Melissa Mckinlay has since criticized the poor road conditions where it happened.

"This road is absolutely horrible, I’ve been on a lot of roads in the area that are in poor condition this is top of the list," McKinlay told CBS 12.

She continued: "There’s no shoulder, the roadway markings are poor, the pavement condition is terrible, there are no lights, there are no guardrails on most of the road, only a little right up here on the turns. There are two very dangerous turns."

UNILAD has approached Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for comment.
