A man has passed away after being fatally shot just hours after his wedding.
On Saturday (October 12), Tyrek Burton got married to his partner of 16 years, Kiara Holloway, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In a statement shared to Facebook, Greensboro Police continued: "Upon arrival, officers located an injured man in the parking area. Lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated at the scene.

The department also said it cannot provide any further details about 'possible suspects of motive' at this time.

And Tyrek's sister-in-law has since spoken out.
Kiara's sister, Nysheria Holloway, told the shooting took place just hours after the nuptials, reflecting to WRAL: "Why on the wedding day? Why him? Just why, why, why? He stepped up to be a father figure in my two oldest nieces' lives because their dad wasn't involved.
"He moved them away from Roxboro, secured a stable job, and was building a future with my sister."

And others have spoken out too.
Posting a video of the couple at their wedding, one Facebook user named Jas Cash wrote: "Friday night Kiara called me like 'You ready?!' I told her I was nervous like I was the one finna walk down the aisle. Tyrek grabbed the phone and said 'Jas, you might as well get ready, cause it's going down tomorrow!'
"Damn my boy! My heart is broken. Yall please pray for Kiara and the kids, his momma, sister, and the other family, their strength, their understanding, their comfort! It's so bad when you feel there's nothing can do.

"The only thing I can give them is God and a shoulder to lean on.
"This is so sad! Kiara asked me, 'How did I marry the love of my life and lose him the same day?' Oh my God, I have no words. This is rough!"
According to The Daily Mail, Tyrek's cousin, Keisha Statterfield, wrote on her GoFundMe that he was a 'beloved husband, father of four beautiful girls, brother and friend, known for his generosity, and infectious smile'.
The homicide is the city's 32nd of 2024.
