Chilling final voicemail from man who disappeared under mysterious circumstances

The audio 'didn't support the idea' Henry McCabe's disappearance wasn't suspicious, an official said

A 'disturbing' voicemail message was left by a man to his wife the day before he went missing.

On September 8, 2015, 32-year-old Henry McCabe from Mounds View, Minnesota, was officially reported missing to police by his wife, Kareen McCabe.

The day before, Kareen had received a voicemail message on her phone from her husband lasting two minutes which raised concerns.

The circumstances around Henry's disappearance

Henry was last seen by an 'acquaintance' near a nightclub in Mounds View on the night of September 7.

Mounds View Police Department Chief Tom Kinney told ABC News: "The acquaintance told us that he dropped McCabe off not too far from the club a little after two or so in the morning at a local gas station's convenience store."

And it's from that night that the voicemail recording from Henry's phone was left to his wife, the two-minute long 'disturbing' recording.

The voicemail recording

Obtained by ABC News, the voicemail recording is hard to decipher, however a post sharing it to Reddit attempts to break down what can be heard going on and certain sentences possibly being said.

The post - shared by u/nectarvivid to Reddit thread r/AllThatIsInteresting - features a video which claims to hear someone saying something about an 'apology' being 'nowhere' alongside a voice questioning why someone or something 'won't look at' them.

There are certain grimaces and moans, sounds which sound like someone in distress alongside a pause and then a voice saying, 'Stop it'.

The audio is also played in reverse which is all the more alarming.

Kareen told KSTP at the time: "I try to picture where he was, what it might've been like, what circumstances would've made him sound like that."

Chief Kinney said at the time: "[We] aren't ruling out any possibilities, whether it be that he disappeared on his own, or if there was some kind of accident involved, or if there was some other intentional act of harm someone tried to bring upon to Henry."

Alas, police were 'unable to make any definite conclusions about the disturbing voicemail' and there weren't any further updates made publicly available about the recording even after the department sent the audio to a local FBI office seeking a 'clean up' and possible 'further analysis'.

Latest updates

After McCabe was reported missing by his wife, volunteer groups and law enforcement personnel conducted searches in the area, looking at 'possible routes' Henry may've 'walked if he tried to get back home'.

Unfortunately the searches led to 'nothing of any significance' being discovered.

McCabe's body was found at Rush Lake on November 2, 2015 by a kayaker, The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Despite the disturbing nature of the voicemail recording, a medical examiner ruled there had been no foul play and McCabe's death was not ruled as suspicious.

Minnesota PD official David Singleton told the Star Tribune: "I don't believe the idea that he just wandered that far on his own and the audio doesn't support the idea that his death is not suspicious."

While the autopsy report suggested McCabe may have died by drowning, no official cause of death was ever determined and with the voicemail recording throwing what happened into question even further, the case subsequently remains open.
