People begging for update after 'legendary' man strapped down his entire house in preparation for Hurricane Milton

People begging for update after 'legendary' man strapped down his entire house in preparation for Hurricane Milton

Florida resident Pedro Casares strapped down his home ahead of Hurricane Milton hitting

While most people have been covering their windows with plywood and surrounding their homes with sandbags, this guy had a rather different approach to preparing for Hurricane Milton.

Pedro Casares has been hailed as a 'Florida legend' for his unconventional way of making his home Hurricane-ready before the storm hit yesterday (Wednesday, October 10).

Hurricane Milton hit category five at its peak with experts warning of the life-threatening destruction it was likely to cause when it came to land.

Fortunately by the time it got to the Florida coast it dropped to a category three hurricane, but it's still caused masses of destruction - for example, at the Tampa Field stadium.

The full extent of Hurricane Milton's damage will be revealed today once the sun comes up.

With the hurricane on its way out of Florida, people will have been rushing to get updates from their loved ones to make sure they're OK. Elsewhere, people of social media have been left relieved to learn that viral star 'Lieutenant Dan' survived the hurricane, despite refusing to leave his boat.

As well as 'Lieutenant Dan', people have been calling for updates on Pedro Casares, who 9NEWS reported on ahead of the storm hitting.

In the news report, Pedro proudly shows off the straps he attached to the roof of his home in Orlando in a bid to stop it blowing off during Hurricane Milton.

Speaking to CNN's Brian Abel, Pedro's daughter explained that the straps that were attached to the hooks on the ground were eight feet deep with cement.

Pedro thought up the unique idea after he and his family endured a hurricane two decades ago in their home country of Puerto Rico.

His daughter urged people to 'stay tuned' to see if her father's contraption worked or not - and people are doing just that.

"To not follow up on this story after the hurricane would be journalistic malpractice," one person commented on YouTube.

Calling Pedro a 'legend', someone else said: "If this man’s house survives, he will be a Florida legend."

"We all rooting for this man," a different person penned as someone else said they were '100% invested in this story'.

Another viewer went on to urge: "Please give us an update on this after the storm… would be a great idea for everyone with those type of roofs if it does the job!"

Dozens of others have agreed and are calling for news on the state of Pedro's home.
