It can be a bit disappointing when you’re out fishing to catch something that isn’t, well, a fish.

Old bits of trash or cans that have been thrown into the water often get pulled out instead of the prize fish you were hoping for. There’s such disappointment when we think we’ve caught a whopper of a fish and it’s actually just a big old tree branch.

Although, it would be different if we found ourselves somehow reeling in a load of cash - our instinct would obviously be to keep the bounty.

But this young legend is evidently a better person than us.

Connor Halsa was on a fishing trip at Lake of the Woods, Minnesota, when he caught a wallet brimming with dollars – although he did think it was a ‘big fish’ at first.

The 14-year-old told ABC’s WDAY-TV: “My cousin opened the wallet up, and he said some words you probably shouldn't say, and he showed everyone.”

Inside was a business card with a telephone number on and a whole $2,000.

His dad suggested Connor should return the wallet to its owner, which he agreed to, reports WDAY-TV.

Saying it’s important to ‘be nice to everyone’, the teen said: “We didn't work hard for the money, he did, so it was his money.”

Jim gave the teen a custom cooler.

His family eventually managed to locate the owner: Jim Denney of Iowa.

And get this, he said he lost the wallet a whole year ago while he was on a fishing trip of his own at the same spot.

The farmer headed out to Moorhead to meet up with the family and even tried to give them some of the money – but it was rejected.

So, Jim gifted a new custom-made cooler to Connor and told the news outlet he would have Connor ‘as a grandson any day’.

It’s also reported that he took the family out to dinner, to say thank you.

The wallet contained $2k.

Reunited with his wallet from the lake, a whole year after he lost it, Jim said: “I have the billfold in my hands, and it is still hard to believe.”

Commenting on the report of this honest young teen’s actions, YouTube viewers wrote: “BRAVO! That’s how it’s done,” and, “Good job young man!”

One said: “The fact that he snagged it with a fishing hook is amazing. I only ever catch rocks and branches.”

But another did write: “Cool gesture from the kid, but here I am wondering how he lost so much money, and his wallet in the first place.”

I'm sure Jim Denney has been wondering the same thing for a year as well, friend.
