CNN reporter Wolf Blitzer rushed into the studio following the news that President Biden was stepping down

For anyone who works in the media, you'll know that the news is a 24/7 job - something which Wolf Blitzer knows firsthand.

Blitzer is an acclaimed American journalist and has worked for CNN for over three decades.

He's now one of the network's principal anchors and has his own show called The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, which typically airs on weekdays at 6pm.

But the 76-year-old was forced to rush into work last night (Sunday, July 21) following the news that President Biden was dropping out of the presidential race.

Taking to social media, Biden penned in a lengthly statement: "Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation.

"Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans.

"We’ve provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today."

He continued to write that he believed that it was 'in the best interest of my party and the country' for him to stand down.

Biden will continue his presidential duties until the end of his term and has since endorsed Kamala Harris as his successor.

Just a couple of hours prior to Biden's bombshell announcement, reporter Blitzer had been enjoying a cocktail in a restaurant that just happened to be named El Presidente.

Sharing a snap of him enjoying a tipple, Blitzer penned on X: "Enjoying a Wolf Spritzer at El Presidente restaurant here in DC."

People have since praised Blitzer for rushing into work despite having been enjoying his day off shortly before.

"Wolf Blitzer going into work after just being on the sauce like a true pro," one wrote on social media.

Another person found the ordeal quite entertaining. They said: "CNN hitting a button & teleporting Wolf Blitzer mid mimosa to the studio is literally the funniest thing ever."

Replying to his photo of him with cocktail in hand, someone else quipped: "You thought you had the day off didn’t you."

"You had no idea your day was gonna be as it is when you had this drink huh," echoed a second person.

Hats off to Blitzer for still making it into the office.
