A desperate search is underway after a woman fell overboard while on Royal Caribbean's Taylor Swift-themed cruise.

It is understood the 66-year-old fell off the ship at about 9.40pm on Tuesday, while in the Bahamas.

Having only recently departed from Miami, the accident occurred approximately 17 miles north of Nassau.

A spokesperson for the a Royal Caribbean said: “Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort and is working with local authorities.

"We are also providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time. To respect the privacy of our guest’s family, we have no additional details to share.”

In search efforts to find the senior citizen, the Coast Guard sent an HC-144 airplane crew as well as an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew from its air station in Miami, Florida.

The cruise line recently unveiled the popular cruise ship dubbed 'In My Cruise Era: The Taylor Fan's Cruise Group'.

Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas cruise ship played host as the themed liner. It is a four-night cruise leaving from the Port of Miami on Monday (October 21), visiting CocoCay - which is the Royal Caribbean International’s private island, and Nassau, the Bahamas.

The ship will then return to Miami via for a full day at sea.

It is not the only incident to have taken place with the cruise line.

Last year passengers fell overboard on two separate occasions, the first of which involved a cruise to Hawaii from Australia.

While later on in 2023, the cruise line's Spectrum of the Seas saw one of its passengers fall overboard while their cruise ship was journeying to Singapore.
