Woman missing after entering Niagara river just one week after mom 'intentionally' jumped off falls with her two kids

New York State Police confirmed a search party is underway

Warning: This article contains discussion of suicide which some readers may find distressing.

Just over a week on from the deaths of a baby, a young child and their mom, another woman is reported to have also 'intentionally' entered the rushing waters of the Niagara River.

Tragedy may have struck once again on the US side of the Niagara Falls as New York State Police confirmed a search party is underway to find an unidentified woman who is believed to have willingly entered the water at around 2pm on Wednesday (November 6).

It is understood she 'jumped' in the water from Goat Island, which is the largest of all the islands located at the top of the cascades, by Horseshoe Falls.

State police have released a statement giving more insight into the incident.

It read: "An immediate search of the area commenced using Park Police drone, foot searches of the gorge, and visual searches from overlooks.

"Park Police contacted New York State Police Aviation for assistance in searching the lower Niagara River."

This comes just days after 33-year-old Chianti Means 'intentionally' jumped from Luna Island, which is located next to Goat Island, with her nine-year-old son, Roman Rossman, and her five-month-old daughter, Mecca Means.

According to the official report, at around 9pm on October 28 Means - who'd made two final Facebook posts a month prior to the incident - had 'crossed over' the 'safety guild rail' before going 'over' the falls, with the incident being 'intentional in nature'.

A spokesperson for the police revealed to WKBW TV: "This location to put it into perspective is right on the edge of Niagara Falls so you can see the falls crest right over, it's a vantage point where people would go not to view the falls but to be right next to the falls.

"There is quite a bit of height difference but it's not as much the height, it's the rocks and terrain that's at the bottom - it's not like you're jumping, you know, into a pond or some fresh body of water; it's very rocky, the terrain is obviously very deadly."

When asked if the bodies had been found, the spokesperson confirmed: "No, not at this time."

Tragically, their bodies are yet to be recovered and an investigation is ongoing.
