According to reports, the 36-year-old was in the water when, for a reason that has not been disclosed, he became distressed and had to be helped out of the water by two members of staff.

Efron's representatives confirmed to TMZ that he was involved in a what they described as a 'minor swimming incident' and was later taken to hospital as 'a precautionary measure'.

The ordeal has scared many fans online, including one who took to Twitter to share her thoughts.

They posted: "So ZacEefron was hospitalized because he was found in a pool by two people but entertainment tonight said that it was 'minor'… doesn’t sound minor to me."

Well, according to Efron himself, it was and he has given an update on the situation.

The High School Musical star took to Instagram to share his recovery with his adoring fans.

He posted a picture on his Story of himself in nothing but swimming trunks, working out with two large dumbbells while lay on an exercise ball.

The actor captioned it with: "Happy and healthy - thanks for the well wishes."

Efron has been traveling round different parts of Europe in recent weeks and attended 'Prelude To The Olympics' at Fondation Louis Vuitton on July 25 in Paris, France.

As part of his vacation, the star has been spotted living it large on the Spanish party island.

While there he even joined close pal Martin Garrix on stage during his DJ set at Ushuaïa in scenes that could have been taken straight out of his 2015 movie We Are Your Friends.

It is not the first time Efron has been hospitalized - back in 2013 he 'nearly died' after an accident that saw him suffer a broken jaw.

Efron was believed to have been running through his home in a pair of socks when he slipped and smacked his face on a granite fountain.

His jaw bone was reportedly hanging off his face following the incident and he was forced to have it wired shut.

UNILAD previously contacted representatives for Zac Efron for comment.
