US police have reopened a probe into the death of 31-year-old Christy Shelton, an ex-girlfriend of inmate Casey White, who was dramatically captured on Monday, 9 May, after escaping from prison in Alabama.
Christy died in 2008 in an apparent suicide; her body was discovered in a trailer belonging to Casey’s mother. She was reportedly killed by a sawed-off shotgun, however Christy’s family have insisted she did not take her own life.
Police finally apprehended Casey this week, 10 days after he escaped from Alabama’s Lauderdale County Jail with the help of corrections officer Vicky White, who Casey was said to be romantically involved with.

Casey and Vicky were caught on CCTV leaving the detention centre on 29 April and getting into a police car before driving away.
Police caught up with the pair in Evansville, Indiana, this week. While Casey remains in custody, Vicky died from a gunshot wound sustained in the chase that is thought to have been self inflicted.
Now, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has renewed the investigation into Christy’s death, according to the New York Post.

Somer Mitchell, Casey’s daughter, told Alabama’s News 19: “Casey White was with my mom the night that she committed suicide.”
She added: “Nothing was really done. I don’t think they took him in for questioning. So maybe this video will fall into the right hands of someone that can actually make a difference or look into it more, maybe investigate. I’m not really sure.”
UNILAD has approached Limestone County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
At the time of Casey’s escape, he was serving 75 years behind bars for attempted murder, burglary, robbery, kidnapping and animal cruelty.
Seven years after Christy’s death he went on a violent crime spree, breaking into the home of a former female acquaintance and opening fire, resulting in the death of her pet dog.

Casey and Vicky spurred a 10-day manhunt that resulted in a car crash and Vicky’s death.
According to an extensive report published by MailOnline after their escape, the pair went on the run armed with an AR-15 and a shotgun after Vicky snuck the 6ft 9in convict out of jail.
Vicky – who was a day away from retirement and had been on the job for 17 years – had allegedly told superiors she was taking Casey for a mental health evaluation.
It wasn’t until after Casey’s escape that details of his and Vicky’s alleged romantic relationship began to emerge.
