Will Ferrell, or should I say Jackie Moon, nailed an impressive half-court show as he took to the basketball court in San Francisco this week.

Most people will be familiar with Ferrell, but in case you've never heard of Moon, allow me to introduce you. Jackie Moon is the owner, coach, and player for the fictional Flint Tropics of the American Basketball Association in the 2008 movie Semi-Pro.

The character, played by Ferrell, manages to rally his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true, and this week he made a triumphant return ahead of the game between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Ferrell helped rally the Warriors following a five-game losing streak, and helped guard Klay Thompson while the star practised his shooting ahead of the game. During his time on the court Ferrell also kicked the ball to Steph Curry and joined a pre-game huddle, but it wasn't until halftime that he really showed off his skills.

According to AP News, Ferrell, dressed in a vintage-style headband and his Jackie Moon jersey, returned to the court halfway through the game to try a half-court shot, which he managed to nail on the second try.

Speaking later about his appearance, Ferrell joked that Moon was 'under contract', adding: 'So this is the very first try-out with the team, let’s see what happens.'

When it came to making his half court shot, he added: 'I make those in my sleep.'

The decision to bring Moon out of retirement was reportedly made specially for Thompson, who dressed as the film character for Halloween three years ago and is a big fan of the film.

Ferrell is said to have emailed coach Steve Kerr ahead of the game, though Kerr didn't really believe it was the actor who had got in touch, CBS Sports reports.

Commenting on the star's appearance, Thompson said: 'When I had some dark days I would put that movie on and it would make me smile. I'm very thankful for that film. That was so cool, dreams do come true.'

Ferrell's efforts to rally the team appeared to pay off as the Warriors ended up beating the Los Angeles Clippers 112-97. Curry said the involvement of Ferrell was 'fun', and he was glad the team 'took advantage' of their special guest.

He added: 'I think we fed off the energy. I was actually surprised, his form, he actually had some good rotation on the ball, and endless energy. I don't know how.'

I can tell you how, Curry; because Jackie Moon is a semi-pro.
