People are flooding to social media to commemorate a young influencer who has died after falling into a reservoir.

On Tuesday (16 April) 20-year-old influencer Diego Kaua Oliveira Santos was out at Lake Salto Grande, Americana in São Paulo, Brazil, with his friends when he 'fell into the river and didn't return'.

Diego's passing was confirmed by his brother, who posted to his Instagram page - where he has over 140,000 followers.

He wrote: "[Translation] Good evening to all of you who were fans of Diego. This is his brother speaking. Today, we received sad news that he fell into the river and didn't return.

"After one or two hours, they found the body... My brother is dead. He passed away. I have his cell phone. I wanted to say thank you very much for the support you always gave him."

The influencer is reported as having been active on his phone earlier in the day, posting to his Instagram and allegedly telling followers he'd give them 'something live' with civil police adding he was allegedly there to record content for his social media, the Sun reports.

Brazil's Public Security Secretariat has since addressed the incident.

The country's Public Security Secretariat said in a statement : "Witnesses who were with the victim tried to save the young man, without success.

"They then called the Fire Department, which could not rescue the man alive.

"The report was registered as a suspicious death at the 4th DP of Americana, where an expert report was requested and investigations into what happened are ongoing."

One Instagram user said: "[Translation] You will never be forgotten brother! I LOVE YOU."

"I will always remember you in your videos," another added.

A third commented: "I remember when Dieguinho was in the barbershop with me talking and saying that his photos had almost no comments! And seeing so many statements now makes me reflect a lot! Above all."

Diego's brother resolved: "[He was] a person who always motivated me to be like him, to seek success, not to be discouraged, to pursue my dream'.

"My brother supported me very, very, very much in this life, and I'm sure he's in a good place."

UNILAD has contacted Brazil's Public Security Secretariat for comment.
