Shirley said that she would always warn her husband before he set off for work, given the dangerous nature of the job.
She said: "Normally I always get him up, make him a tea and say, 'Honey please be safe' and yesterday was the first time I didn't say that and now he's gone."
The pair met at a church nine years ago, and had three children together in the time they shared.

Throughout the interview, Shirley was wearing her husband's clothes to keep him close and in their memory.
Six ambulances rushed to the scene but paramedics were unable to revive the father-of-three.
Shirley added: "My daughter, because we were all crying, she kept closing her ears... it was just a sad feeling; I actually can't believe he is gone.
"Cherish your loved ones, kiss them, and tell them to be safe so they can return home to their loved ones every time they leave."

Mike's brother has revealed they had been planning a holiday together before his death, and was reflecting on their final phone conversation, where Mike told him he was 'forever in my [his] heart'.
A team of investigators have now attended the scene, to look at what went wrong in the hopes of preventing a similar loss happening in a different family.
WA director of energy safety, Saj Abdoolakhan, said: "We're looking at different angles here, was the person adequately trained to do the work, what was he instructed to do, what was the employer's instruction to him."
