Heart-stopping footage captures moment skydivers are launched into the sky as two planes crash

The terrifying video shows skydivers and pilots jumping free of the planes as they collide mid air

If you ever needed a reason to not try skydiving, this video will give you all the reason and more to avoid it like the plague.

A terrifying clip shows the moment that two light aircraft carrying skydivers collided with one another midair.

As far as plane crashes go, it doesn't get much more terrifying than a mid air collision with the chances of surviving it being vanishingly small.

Even if you survive the initial impact then you face the stomach-turning prospect of plummeting to the ground hundreds or even thousands of metres below.

Fortunately this was a very different set of circumstances, as both of the light aircraft involved in the crash were filled with skydivers.

You might be worried about the prospect of jumping out of a perfectly good plane, but nothing offers a little motivation to jump quite like that plane hitting another one and a wing falling off.

But while it might look like the worst nightmare of anyone who is nervous about flying, this scenario had an unexpected end.

That's because despite looking like the opening scene from an action movie or video game, by a small miracle everyone involved survived the incident.

Not only that, but there weren't even any serious injuries.

So how on earth did they manage to pull off such a remarkable feat?

Well, obviously everyone was wearing their parachute which helped massively, but just having a parachute on alone wouldn't be enough.

If you were a rookie or God forbid it was your first jump, then that would make things a lot more complicated.

But fortunately on this occasion all of the people on both planes were either instructors or coaches.

This meant that they had been on hundreds, some even thousands, of jumps.

So it's fair to say that all of them knew exactly what to do in the event of an emergency like this.

Among them was instructor Mike Robinson, who was on his 937th jump.

"We do this all the time," Robinson told The Guardian. "We just don't know what happened for sure that caused this.

"We were just a few seconds away from having a normal skydive when the trail plane came over the top of the lead aircraft and came down on top of it.

"It turned into a big flash fireball, and the wing separated."

He added: "All of us knew we had a crash. The wing over our head was gone, so we just left."

People took to Reddit to share their thoughts, with one writing: "This looks like a scene from an action movie."

Another wrote: "What a great time to all have parachutes on."

A third questioned how the planes even collided, saying: "How? This seems like too cars crashing in an empty mall parking lot."
