
The roof collapse of a Dominican Republic nightclub has had a tragic update, two days after the incident.
On Tuesday morning (April 8), the roof of Jet Set nightclub in southern Santo Domingo, collapsed after the roof caved in approximately an hour after a concert began.
At the time, singer Rubby Pérez was performing and videos quickly began circulating of the roof falling before the entire structure collapsed in on itself.

Yesterday (April 9), it was reported that 124 people were killed and over 255 people were injured.
However, a fresh update has now revealed the true extent of the tragedy.
Rescue workers ended the search for survivors on Wednesday after the death toll surpassed 180. Over 500 people were also injured by the collapse.

This marks the Caribbean nation’s worst disaster in decades.
According to the Guardian, emergency personnel reported 60 more deaths compared to what they first counted in the morning, with the total confirmed deaths reaching 184.
“Today we will complete the rescue effort,” said Jose Luis Frometa Herasme, head of the fire service.
Over 300 rescue workers spent two days searching under bricks and steel bars to find survivors and bodies and were supported by firefighters from Puerto Rico and Israel in their efforts.

It is believed that between 500-1000 people were enjoying the concert in the venue whilst famed merengue singer Rubby Pérez was performing.
Unfortunately, while Pérez’s daughter was able to escape the rubble, her father was killed by the collapse, along with former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Octavio Dotel and Dominican player Tony Enrique Blanco Cabrera.
A spokesman for the country’s Professional Baseball League, Satosky Terrero, confirmed the deaths of the players.
In a statement, MLB pitcher Dotel's agent, Dan Horwits, said: "His energy, positivity and zest for life were infectious to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We pass along our thoughts and prayers to his entire family as well as everyone affected by the tragedy."

Governor of the north-western province of Montecristi and sister of MLB Nelson Cruz, reportedly called President Luis Abinader from underneath the rubble to tell him of what had happened at the venue, but later passed away in hospital.
Luis Solis - a saxophonist- who was playing onstage passed away, along with several Venezuelan bartenders and an army captain.
Financial services company Grupo Popular reported three of its employees were killed in the incident, including AFP Popular Bank president and his wife.

After the tragic occurrence, Dominican President Luis Abinader declared three days of national mourning.
He said: "We deeply regret the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub. All rescue agencies have provided the necessary assistance and are working tirelessly in the rescue efforts. Our prayers are with the affected families."
Meanwhile, Randolfo Rijo Gómez, director of the country’s 911 system, confirmed that the force received over 100 calls about the roof collapse, with several of the calls being made by people buried beneath the rubble.
He said that police arrived at the venue in 90 seconds, and minutes later first response units followed.
Within 30 minutes, 25 soldiers, seven fire brigades and 77 ambulances were on scene.
