Nearly a decade after the release of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, a sequel has been announced.
Yes, you read that correctly. Plus, the sequel is coming sooner than you think and it has an incredible title.
Assassin’s Creed fanatics will probably remember this sequel was actually first revealed back in 2021. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag is widely considered to be one of the most brilliant games in the Assassin's Creed franchise and the news was welcomed with open arms.

At the time, however, the newly announced sequel didn't have a title or a release date and around two years since that announcement came, we now know more about the upcoming outing.
When Assassin's Creed was released in October 2013 and at the height of the PS3/Xbox 360 era, it ushered new life into the Assassin's Creed open-world formula by casting players as a brave pirate tasked with searching the seas for loot and adventure. The naval fights and adventure in the game was a revelation and won fans over, as did protagonist Edward Kenway, whose cheeky pirate charm has won him many admirers in the gaming community ever since.
After not hearing about Kenway's next adventure for almost a decade, in April 2021 fans learned that Ubisoft was plotting a sequel which will star the pirate-turned-assassin, albeit with a catch.

Eurogamer spoke to two of Assassin's Creed 'loremasters' for an interview which touched on Assassin's Creed: Black Flag's sequel and the catch...
Behold, Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple, a direct follow-up to Edward Kenway’s story in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. The sequel will follow Edward’s journey to find the Pieces of Eden along the coasts of the Southeast Asian seas, after being fully integrated into the Assassin Brotherhood, according to a press release.
Fans will also be introduced to a Korean American descendant of Edward, named Noa.

So, what is the catch, you ask? It turns out Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple is not a game at all... it's a WEBTOON series, which is essentially an online comic. But don't let that ruin your excitement as Ubisoft is certain that this is the sequel fans deserve to the much-loved game.
There’ll be 150 episodes for fans to enjoy across three seasons, and the first six episodes will be published on 24 April on the WEBTOON website.
“We are thrilled to expand the Assassin’s Creed series to WEBTOON thanks to this amazing collaboration with WEBTOON and REDICE STUDIO,” said Julien Fabre, Ubisoft’s director of global TV and transmedia business development. “We’ve been working hard with the talented folks at REDICE to craft this original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag sequel and hope that existing fans and new readers around the world will enjoy it.”
