A Hogwarts Legacy player reckons they've spotted a hidden easter egg in the game in the form of the basilisk from Chamber of Secrets snaking its way around the Slytherin common room.
Players are enjoying the chance to poke around Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the newly released Hogwarts Legacy game and someone thinks they've spotted a secret.
By nature, the castle which hosts the magical school is home to a few secrets, with Hogwarts infamously having a series of secret passages which Harry Potter and pals used to their advantage over their years at school.

One of the most infamous hidden sections of the castle is the Chamber of Secrets, which plays host to the climactic clash of the second Harry Potter book, which sees Harry face down a young Lord Voldemort and one of the most monstrous creatures of wizarding world.
The basilisk spends much of Chamber of Secrets sneaking up on unsuspecting students and trying to kill them with its deadly eyes, because to look a basilisk directly in the eye is certain death.
Fortunately, and somewhat implausibly, the basilisk doesn't manage to kill a single victim over the course of the book as they all manage to have their view of its eyes obscured in some way.

Now, some Hogwarts Legacy players reckon they've managed to stumble upon it snaking its way through the halls of the Slytherin common room in the game.
One player was running around the common room when they saw a giant object rumbling down one of the corridors and posted the footage online.
They wondered aloud whether the creature they had just seen was indeed a basilisk or not, and plenty of other players seemed convinced that there was another easter egg to be discovered in the game.
One person said they 'swear I've been hearing the whispering throughout Hogwarts', while another said they heard characters in the game 'speak of petrification', the fate of anyone who indirectly sees the basilisk.

However, other Hogwarts Legacy players poured cold water on this apparent find and pointed out that this was most likely a bug.
They explained that the tentacle-thing spotted moving through the hallways was actually a giant squid monster which was glitching through the walls of the castle.
Someone explained that the creature was 'clipping through the walls', while another said the basilisk was not 'always that big'.

Sadly, it seems as though this one is a false alarm, though if it's magical creatures you're interested in you might as well go visit the thestrals or have a go at modding Shrek into the world of Hogwarts Legacy.
