Harry Potter fans are preparing to experience the wizarding world as they've never seen it before, following the release of new gameplay footage of Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy was first announced by developers Avalanche Software in 2020, and while there are still a few months to go until the game launches on PlayStation, fans have been given their biggest teasers yet as to what they can expect from this latest foray into the beloved magical universe.
In a 20-minute State of Play update, Avalanche revealed brand new footage from the game, as well as some plot details and hints of what players could expect to uncover within the world of Hogwarts Legacy.
Set in the 1800s, well before the time of Harry Potter and before even the events of the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs, players will see themselves in character as a fifth-year Hogwarts student, as they cause all sorts of wizarding havoc around the school.

As well as exploring the famous Hogwarts campus in greater detail than ever, players will also be engaging in wizarding duels, potions classes and broomstick lessons, interacting with fellow wizards and magical creatures like centaurs and trolls, while also being involved in a wider storyline which sees wizards tasked with investigating a 'rumoured goblin rebellion'.
In addition, the State of Play update confirmed some new gameplay features that would enable players to 'upgrade' their skills and abilities while in the Room of Requirement.
While the time period in which Hogwarts Legacy is sets means there likely won't be any appearance from old favourites, Avalanche explained in a recent blog that this was designed to 'ensure your legend is never overshadowed by any other hero', while reassuring fans that the game would still be 'familiar to everything you loved about the Harry Potter series'.
Unsurprisingly, the new footage has got fans more excited than ever for the upcoming game, with one person tweeting: "Bro Hogwarts Legacy looks like Assassins Creed game but with spells and in Hogwarts."

"Okay, but is anyone else absolutely STOKED for Hogwarts Legacy?" another user wrote, while other fans shared side-by-side images comparing the new gameplay footage to the decades-old original Harry Potter video games, and praised the 'glow-up' of the series as a whole.
Hogwarts Legacy is on track for release ahead of Christmas 2022.
