Instagram is down with many users' accounts showing as suspended

Loads of people have just been told their Instagram accounts are suspended.

Instagram has gone down and many users have been hit with the message that their accounts have been suspended.

While the social media site having a blip and going down is nothing new, what's really worrying people is how they've been told their account is now suspended, seemingly locking them out of the site.

Many users have tried to get back onto the site only to be told their account is suspended and they've got 30 days to contest the decision.

Some people who have seen their accounts suspended have said their friends are telling them that all of their posts are gone from the site, causing huge alarm.

Instagram has said it's aware of the problem and is looking into how to fix it, apologising to everyone who has suddenly found themselves being kicked off the social media platform.

Instagram posted on Twitter and promised to look into people's accounts getting suspended.

Those affected have been furious and horrified to discover that their profiles have been suspended and everything they've ever posted is gone.

Others have tried to appeal against the decision only to then find out that when they try to enter their username and password it's telling them their account 'doesn't exist'.

More called on Instagram demanding that they 'fix it now' and trying to work out what would happen to their accounts now that all trace of them on the site had seemingly vanished.

Someone else joked that maybe this was 'Instagram trying to give us a little scare for Halloween', then said 'OK fun's over, give my account back'.

Plenty were just relieved that they weren't the only ones having this catastrophic problem, comforted a little bit by the knowledge that at least others were in the same boat.

Twitter was hit with an influx of displaced Instagram users all trying to figure out if anyone else was having the same problem (they were) and whether it had been fixed yet.

People have been seeing their accounts hit with this message.

More lamented that Instagram seemed to go down pretty often, and that while it wasn't usually as bad as having their account accidentally suspended it was still pretty frustrating.

Some claimed their account had 'suddenly lost followers' and wondered if it was because of the many accounts being suspended.

As for when Instagram will be back up and available for those who've been blindsided by their accounts getting suspended without warning, it seems like it's time to play the waiting game.
