Christmas has come early for Sims fans far and wide as the hugely popular simulation game is now free to download and play for free.
Those who have eagerly awaited price drops or discounts to purchase the latest version of the iconic game can now spend hours living vicariously through their Sim knowing they’ve paid absolutely nothing to do so.
EA confirmed the groundbreaking news in September and the countdown to today has finally come to an end.

This means gamers can snag their own free copy of The Sims 4 for their PCs, Macs and consoles without any costs.
There’s also a gift for those who just bought the game without knowing about the colossal discount. To avoid feeling a bit silly, EA is offering customers a free furniture expansion pack.
The Sims 4 has been out since 2014 which means everyone who was intending to purchase the fourth incarnation of the long-running life simulation series has probably done so by now.

EA makes money from selling downloadable content (DLCs) that are offered as extension packs to add to the gaming experience. With the base game now costing absolutely nothing, EA are likely hoping the new players will be tempted to splash the cash on adding expansion packs.
“We’ve welcomed millions of players to The Sims and watched in awe as they unleashed their imaginations, discovered and connected with ideas, experiences and versions of themselves, both in-game and real life,” EA said in the announcement. “Our community has continued to inspire us with the billions of unique Sims they’ve created, the countless stories they’ve told, and the remarkable builds they’ve designed.
“Our team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful The Sims 4 experiences for our players and we will continue to develop and release packs, kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future.”

The possibilities are literally endless in The Sims. Players usually spend hours crafting the perfect character using the array of personalisation features. While some people opt to create a Sim who resembles themselves, others may be even more creative and conjure someone entirely unique.
You can choose character traits for your Sim and spend hours building them a home, finding their dream job and even a partner.
Some players even recreate their favourite shows, like the YouTuber SimgmProductions who creates scarily accurate Keeping Up with the Kardashian scenes using The Sims.
