Viewers divided after people claim underrated Netflix series is ‘way better’ than Grey’s Anatomy

Many Netflix viewers were up in arms when someone suggested that another series is better than the classic Grey's Anatomy

If you asked a group of people to name their favorite medical drama, the chances are that one name would crop up.

The genre has had many incredible shows over the years, whether it's the high-minded genius in House or the morally grey Nurse Jackie.

But there is of course the iconic example of the genre: Grey's Anatomy.

The show is one of the most widely-known medical dramas to ever grace out television screens.

Running for a whopping 20 seasons comprised of 425 episodes following the exploits of Meredith Grey as she navigates her career in medicine in the shadow of her mother, a world-renowned surgeon. No pressure!

But despite the series' ongoing popularity, one person took to the Facebook group Netflix Bangers to pose a rather controversial question.

Strap in.

They wrote: "The Resident on Netflix is way better than Grey's Anatomy ..tell me I'm wrong."

Of course, many people did just that, piling into the comments with variations of the phrase 'You’re wrong'.

In fairness, they did leave a bit of an open goal on that one so you can hardly blame people for obliging them.

Nonetheless, others did come in with some more nuanced takes than simply taking the poster at their word and saying 'you're wrong'.

The Resident follows the personal and working lives of hospital staff at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, and has been seen as a critique of the healthcare industry over its portrayal of the bureaucracy facing hospital staff.

It actually has a slightly higher IMDb score than Grey's Anatomy - 7.8 versus 7.6 - but nowhere near the same staying power.

It aired for six seasons and 107 episodes from 2018 to 2023 before being cancelled by Fox. All six seasons are now available to watch on Netflix in the US.

Back to the Grey's Anatomy vs The Resident debate, one person wrote "I'm having a hard time getting into it. Grey's will always be my comfort show."

But another threw their full weight behind the original poster, saying that they actually agreed that the Netflix series was better.

They wrote: "Yesss!!! I agree! I'm watching the resident now. Dont get me wrong I'll always love Greys but the Resident is the better of the 2."

You probably think that's about as controversial as this is going to get, but you would be wrong.

That's because someone else decided to break out of the binary mindset of only choosing between Grey's Anatomy and The Resident.

Especially when an option like The Good Doctor is right there.

They wrote: "The Good Doctor is also awesome!! I used to be a diehard Grey’s fan, it’s been a long time since I felt that way!"

The Resident is available to stream on Netflix.
