Videos of Anya Taylor-Joy speaking Spanish have gone viral after people started realising it’s actually her first language.
One such video is a promotional clip for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which blew some fans’ minds, along with a recent Dior ad:
Taylor-Joy, 26, has been on the international press circuit recently to speak about the new video game adaptation, in which she voices Princess Peach alongside the likes of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key.

A promotional clip for the film has been doing the rounds on Twitter after it showed her speaking fluently in Spanish – a language many didn’t realise she could speak, despite the fact it’s actually her native tongue.
“I had no idea Anya Taylor-Joy speaks Spanish (cuz I know next to nothing about celebs) and now,” one wrote.
“I forgot she’s half Latino,” someone else wrote.

A third wrote: “My current obsession is Anya Taylor-Joy speaking Spanish. That is all.”
A fourth added: "ANYA TAYLOR JOY IS LATINA???? AND SHE SPEAKS FLUENT SPANISH???? SHE'S FROM ARGENTINA????"
One other fan had a similar epiphany a few months ago, posting another interview clip, saying: “Just learned that Anya Taylor-Joy is partially of Argentinian descent but speaks perfect Spanish, deep Argentinian accent and all.”

Then there was a Dior ad, which saw Taylor-Joy slide into Spanish when she spoke about her 'icon'.
"The person I admire most is my mom," she said in Spanish.
"Because she always has so much love for everyone. She always wants to take care of you. She's a very beautiful person."

While Taylor-Joy was born in Miami, Florida, she lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina until she was six, before her family moved to England.
She once referenced her background in her 2021 opening monologue on Saturday Night Live.
"Now that you're hearing my accent, you may be surprised to know I was born in Miami, raised between Argentina and London, and my first language is Spanish, so legally my ethnicity is Fashion Week,” she joked.
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Taylor-Joy also recalled how she learnt English by watching none other than Jack Black film School of Rock.

She said: “At the school I went to when I first moved to London they would play 2003 film School of Rock every Friday.
“At that time, I didn’t really speak much English, if any, so that and Harry Potter and Jumanji are like how I learned English!”
The Queen’s Gambit star also added that she didn’t meet Black until the press tour, having obviously been stuck in sound booths to record their vocals for the animated flick, rather than acting in person.
“I didn’t realize I was going to be doing the press day for this movie with Jack Black, so when I read that, the sound that came out of me was just this high pitch shriek that I was not expecting!” she said.
”We haven’t met each other because we all recorded our parts individually, so I was super starstruck when I saw the schedule for today.”
