Drake and Kendrick Lamar comparisons have been going on long before the public feud between the two rappers, so long that Barack Obama once weighed in on it while in office.
While some listeners have been utterly bamboozled by hip hop heavyweights Drake and Kendrick Lamar taking shots at one another (figuratively, thankfully), others knew this rivalry was brewing beneath the surface.
If you were a fan of either music artist during the 2010s, you’ll remember there were constant comparisons and arguments amongst supporters over who was better.

Things just took a little bit more of a personal tone the last year or so.

But way back in 2016, then President Barack Obama was pretty confident who would win if the two behemoths stopped sneak dissing and engaged in a public war of words.
Speaking to YouTuber Adande Thorne, better known as Swoozie, Obama gave his verdict on who would win a rap beef.

When asked, Obama replied: “You gotta go with Kendrick.
“I think Drake is an outstanding entertainer but Kendrick, his lyrics... his last album was outstanding.
“Best album, I think, of last year.”
The album Obama was referring to was of course To Pimp a Butterfly, which is universally praised as one of Kendrick's best, if not the best, album of his career.

People on social media have pretty much been losing their minds over this.
One person joked: “Obama wasnt [sic] about to side with no Canadian.”
And another simply wrote: “This is truly a prediction.”
A third person added: “Drake probably gon [sic] refer to this in his next song lmao.”

However, some argued there was no chance Obama would say Drake.
One user explained why and said: “Obama would never say Drake even if he wanted to. That was a diplomatic answer. While his answer might be genuine but he wouldn’t say Drake because 1) Drake is Canadian, he has to go with Kendrick 2) Drake is biracial like him and people would say he picked Drake because of that.”

This isn’t the only time Obama has praised Kendrick for his music, though. As recent as last year October, Obama highlighted in an interview how impactful he believes Kendrick has been.

Speaking on the Deepcut with VicBlends podcast, Obama said: “Kendrick is a friend of mine, he actually performed at the White House.
“I’m pretty confident in saying that not that many presidents were familiar with hip hop before I was president.
“I do think that Kendrick has a unique status right now. He is not just gifted, he is serious about the message, he digs into himself, he digs deep.”
