Britney Spears Nude Photos Cause Ageism Debate After She's Labelled 'Disturbing'

Britney Spears recent nude Instagram pictures have sparked a conversation about ageism.

While Spears was praised for posing in her underwear aged 17 on the cover of Rolling Stone, now age 40 her self expression has been called 'disgusting'.

More than two decades since the infamous magazine cover, Spears has had to remind people she's a 'free woman' who can do what she likes with her body, in reference to the controversial conservatorship that ended in November 2021.

The photos Spears shared were taken while she was on holiday in French Polynesia, and saw the singer pose naked on the beach.

While some praised the star, saying 'it's britney Beach!!' and 'Live your life queen of the universe', others trolled the singer, calling the posts 'embarrassing' and 'disgusting'.

Spears then posted another picture with a caption defending her self-expression.

She wrote 'alrightyyy then folks … showing my bod in French Polynesia as a rebel and free WOMAN !!!!! I WILL DO BIG LETTERS CAUSE I THINK THAT MEANS IT’S IMPORTANT AND I DON’T WANT TO BE LEFT OUT'.

This isn't the first time the Baby One More Time singer was forced to speak out about her posts; she shared a series of topless photos last August amid her battle for the conservatorship to end.

She said of the posts, 'I bet you’re wondering why I’d expose my body NOW … well it’s because I was born into this world naked and I honestly feel like the weight of the [world] has been on my shoulders and it’s made me view myself that way.'

Spears proceeded to say that while she's not going to 'do topless pics for the rest of my life', it helps 'when you need to be enlightened'.

Fans of the singer have since questioned why Spears is being made to defend her self-expression now, when she was previously praised for posing nude.

One Twitter user wrote, 'Ppl have no issue w/ magazines & execs making money off a 21 yr old Britney’s nudity, but are up in arms when 40 yr old Brit chooses to do it for herself? She won’t be shamed by anyone or be told what her freedom should look like. That ended November 12, 2021. EAT IT, b*tches!'

Another responded to a comment under Britney's picture, 'she's lost her mind' the user wrote, 'she is allowed to do what she wants. britney is 40! a grown ass adult. her posing naked dont mean she lost her mind'.
