The Church of Satan has said that they can count some famous faces among their congregation, though who might have the status of 'celebrity Satanist' is unknown.
Yes, the Church of Satan is real and apparently, some popular celebrities ascribe to their teachings, at least according to one of their senior figures, though they're staying tight-lipped on who those people might be.
And if you're wanting to draw up a 'Guess Who' of potential celebrities who lead towards being Satanist, you can probably cross Sam Smith off the list after the church threw shade at their performance of 'Unholy' at the Grammys.

While some slated the performance as 'devil worship' as the singer dressed in red and wore a top hat with devil horns attached, the Church of Satan said the display was 'nothing particularly special'.
Ouch.
Speaking to Indy100, Church of Satan magister Bill M said he gets 'hate mail and the occasional death threat' for his line of worship, but said that he's encountered some celebrities who are apparently on board.

Bill explained that most members of the church were 'typically private' about being connected to it, but he has claimed to have 'met at least a few' celebrities who are members.
The Church of Satan magister also claimed that 'people would be surprised to know are Church of Satan members', though revealed that the more he thought about it, the more sense it made.
He said: "The ones who took me by surprise, once I thought about it more, weren't too surprising in the end.
"When I think about this person and what this person has said in interviews, I see now that they're definitely fellow Satanic Bible adherents."

While he might apparently know about a few famous faces, Bill is 'pretty sure' there are more in the Church of Satan whose 'affiliation is still secret even from me'.
The church isn't worshipping the actual biblical Satan however, he's more of a metaphor or a symbol to represent the things they want to celebrate.
Apparently these things are 'pride, lust, atheism, science, being selective about whom we love, putting oneself first, and so on', and Bill drew a clear line between 'Satanists and Satan worshippers'.

He said that the Church of Satan believes that all deities including Satan himself are 'mythological inventions of humans'.
Still, the church is often linked with the devil himself and can attract a lot of negative attention for it.
Last year, a school which opened up an 'after school Satan club' to teach children critical thinking rather than worshipping Satan was met with a torrent of complaints from parents.
However, the club was sponsored by the Satanic Temple, which is sometimes confused with the Church.
