White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood responds after being seen in tears following 'mean and unfunny' SNL skit that mocked her teeth

White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has responded after she was spotted in tears in the middle of London following a Saturday Night Live skit that mocked her teeth.

Viewers of SNL will be well aware the show certainly takes risks with some of the jokes said on live TV, and the hosts have even found themselves in a bit of bother in the past over comments they've made over certain celebrities.

Wood became the victim of a skit that aired over the weekend, a part of the show she deemed 'mean and unfunny'.

The actor was portrayed by Sarah Sherman who wore huge prosthetic teeth while acting intentionally stupid and poking fun out of her accent, in the skit titled 'The White Potus'.

President Donald Trump also featured in the skit, with James Austin Johnson playing the Republican politician.

In the sketch, SNL's host Jon Hamm said to Sherman's character: "What if we took all the fluoride out of the drinking water? But what would that do to people's teeth?"

Sherman replied: "Fluoride? What's that?"

Sherman continued: "Oh, look, a monkey."

Hamm's character then went on to say he is going to kill the creature, to which Sherman responded: "No, not the monkey."

Following the skit, the British actor has been spotted looked visibly upset in central London before meeting up with House of the Dragon star Ralph Davis.

Photos obtained by the Mail Online show Wood was seen sobbing into her fellow actor's arms before they sat down for a catchup and coffee.

Once seated outside of a restaurant, Wood appeared to get back to her usual self and even giggled as she chatted away to Davis.

Wood has since taken to Instagram to issue a response to concerned fans, stating she was crying about something 'completely unrelated'.

She wrote in an Instagram story: "Just to say, I actually wasn't crying about anything the papers made out I was crying about. [It was] something complete unrelated."

After the skit aired, Wood took to Instagram to dub the segment of SNL about her as 'mean and unfunny'.

"But whilst in honest mode - I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo (Felt righteous might delete later x)," the actor wrote.

"So, to conclude today's rant: @hbo - kind and supportive and never wronged me so leave them alone. @nbcsnl - mean.

"On a positive note, everyone is agreeing with me about it so I'm glad I said something instead of going in on myself."

Wood continued: "Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the p*ss for sure that's what the show is about but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way!

"Last thing I'll say on the matter. I am not thin skinned. I actually love being taken the p*ss out of when it's clever and in good spirits.

"But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don't mind caricature - I understand that's what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on... Okay end of.

"Actually one last thing. Not @sarahsquirm's [Sarah Sherman] fault x not hating on her, hating on the concept x."

Wood has shared how she has since received an apology from SNL team.

UNILAD has contacted NBC for comment.
