Channing Tatum wants to do 23 Jump Street after cancelled script was 'best he's ever read for third movie'

Channing Tatum wants to do 23 Jump Street after cancelled script was 'best he's ever read for third movie'

Channing Tatum still seems very keen on a third Jump Street movie

Channing Tatum has addressed the potential of a third Jump Street movie and if he'd star it in.

21 Jump Street hit cinemas in 2012, with its sequel dropping just two years later.

But a decade on from the last instalment of the franchise and film fans are still waiting on 23 Jump Street.

There has long been rumours about what could be in store for Schmidt [Jonah Hill] and Jenko [Tatum], with there once being reports of a 21 Jump Street and Men In Black crossover being in the works.

The idea was revealed back in 2016, but sadly never made it past the development stages.

While the crossover seemed to have come to a stalemate, Tatum remained optimistic.

"I still think it could work, I really do," he told Collider in 2022. "And if Sony would ever really, like, I think do the hard work and figure out the producer problems that are inherent with that film, I think we can still do it."

And Tatum is still hopeful for the crossover and recently raved about a script he'd read for it.

"There is a project that was written and it's still the best script that I've ever read for a third movie," Tatum recently told Comicbook.com.

When asked why it didn't come into fruition at the time it was announced almost a decade ago, the Step Up star continued: "It's just a lot of bureaucracy, kind of above the line stuff."

"It's really hard to get it made and we've been trying to get it done," he added.

Tatum proceeded to throw it out into the universe that the movie will eventually happen.

"You know what, I'm going to put some good juju out there and I'm going to say I would love to see 23 Jump Street," he said.

"I would love to do it with Jonah, and Jonah I know wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again."

If you ever wondered what that famous script was actually about, Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller opened up about it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2022.

"There was, believe it or not, a Men In Black/Jump Street crossover script that was very funny and very crazy that we really adored," Miller shared at the time.

"Basically, the idea was Jonah and Channing, a thing happened while they were doing their medical school adventure that got them embroiled into the world of Men In Black and that got them teaming up to stop an alien takeover type of thing. It was very funny."

The real reason why the movie never made it past development stages remains unclear, however.
