Mark Ruffalo has recalled 'slapping the s*** out of' Channing Tatum ‘so many times’ for his role in the Foxcatcher.
The 2014 film directed by Bennett Miller stars the likes of Ruffalo, Tatum and Steve Carell in the sport-thriller.
An official synopsis for the movie reads: "When wealthy John du Pont (Steve Carell) invites Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) to move to his estate and help form a wrestling team for the 1988 Olympics, Mark sees a way to step out of the shadow of his charismatic brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo).

"However, du Pont begins to lead Mark down a dark road, causing the athlete's self-esteem to slip. Meanwhile, du Pont becomes fixated on bringing Dave into the fold, eventually propelling all three toward an unforeseen tragedy."
On a recent episode of the Hot Ones podcast, host Sean Evans posed an interesting question to the actor and his response was just as compelling.
"Fact or fiction: is it true that you once accidentally popped Channing Tatum‘s ear during a particularly physical scene in Foxcatcher, where he told you before the take, ‘Just slap the sh*t out of me?'” the host asked.

Ruffalo responded: "He did ask me to slap the s*** out of him, and it was easy to do because he’d beaten the s*** out of me so many times. It was like four months of learning how to wrestle."
The actor jokingly added: "He like has 30 pounds on me, so when it came time to smack the s*** out of him, I was like, 'Came from Alabama.'"
As per Variety, Tatum originally shared the story of his on-set injury in 2014 during an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

The actor described how all of a sudden his ear was just making a 'screeching noise', adding: "I can’t hear anything. Eardrums heal, so I’m fine."
Elsewhere on Hot Ones, Ruffalo opened up about once being roommates with Joaquin Phoenix during the filming of the 2007 movie Reservation Road.
"He’s a great cook, and he turned me on to vegan cuisine and so he would cook all the time and he was a great roommate," he admitted.
"He was a roommate who would be out and you'd get a text [saying] 'you need anything? Need me to pick up anything?'

"The place is clean, all the dishes were washed, he’s got a great sense of humor," the actor concluded.
