Demi Moore shares message to Mikey Madison as she breaks silence on Oscars loss

Having acted her entire adult life, Moore hoped she would finally grip her own Academy Award at the age of 62

After 44 years of acting since making her film debut, Demi Moore had hoped that the culmination of her career would be an Oscar win.

Instead, the veteran was bested by Mikey Madison, who is 37 years her junior, and Moore has now taken to social media to break her silence following her devastating loss at the 97th Academy Awards ceremony, in Hollywood on Sunday (March 2).

The 62-year-old was the hot favorite to pick up her first statue from her first Oscar nomination, for her role Elisabeth Sparkle in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance - having picked up a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, and a Screen Actors Guild trophy this season.

However, it was 25-year-old Madison's leading role in in Sean Baker’s Anora who took the win, defeating fellow nominees Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo, Brazilian powerhouse Fernanda Torres, and first transgender nominee Karla Sofía Gascón.

Now, taking to Instagram, Moore wrote: "As this awards season comes to a close, I'm so overwhelmed with gratitude for this journey. It's been the ride of a lifetime and we're just getting started!

"So grateful for my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who has made this experience so full of joy and light.

"Thank you to the cast, crew, and fans of @trythesubstance - @isimostar and @coralie_fargeat it's been such an honor to work alongside you, learn from you, and celebrate this film with you."

Before adding: "And a huge congratulations to #MikeyMadison — can't wait to see what you do next."

It comes as an insider close to Moore told Page Six that she 'can't help but feel heartbroken' following the loss.

"Demi is taking this loss very hard because she felt like this was finally her chance to take home an Academy Award," the source told the publication.

Enthusiastic fans flooded Moore's social media accounts to congratulate the star for being nominated for the illustrious award, following a lifetime of acting.

One wrote: "You SPARKLED like no other this season and you deserve every single flower! We love you Demi!"

Another typed: "Absolutely stunning as always and I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!!"

With a third adding: "Demi You are truly iconic—always showing the world what grace, dignity, and class looks like."

While it may not have been written in the stars for Moore, I'm sure coming off the back of such a strong performance, there will be more nominations to come!
