A lot of us have a vague idea of what we want to happen to us when we die, but Ed Sheeran has jumped the gun a bit by quite literally digging his own grave.
In an interview with GQ, the 'Shape of You' singer revealed that he'd had a burial place built for himself on his property in Framlingham, England.
Ed explained that he'd previously had a chapel built on his property (to the protest of his neighbours), which he describes as 'a private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer.'

After seeing how beautiful the finished building was, the singer decided he wanted to be buried there.
He added that he wanted a private place where his wife and children could go and remember him when he passes away.
The 'Perfect' singer married childhood friend, Cherry Seaborn in 2019. The pair have two children together: three-year-old Lyra Antarctica and one-year-old Jupiter.
Rumours about the private burial site began swirling last year.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt,” the 32-year-old said to GQ. “It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there.”
He added: “People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do.”
In March of this year, Ed revealed that Cherry had been diagnosed with a tumour whilst pregnant with their second daughter.

The couple spoke in depth about the ordeal in the Disney+ documentary series Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All, which was released on the platform in May.
While speaking to People, Ed described Cherry's cancer diagnosis as 'horrible.'
Meanwhile, Cherry explained that it changed her opinion about participating in the documentary.

“It made me massively reflect on our mortality,” she said. “I would never agree to do anything like this but it made me think, ‘Oh if I died, what’s people’s perception of me? What do you leave behind?’”
Cherry's diagnosis happened around the same time that Ed's best friend Jamal Edwards passed away.
The British music executive and founder of SBTV died of a sudden heart attack in February of last year. He was just 31 years old.
In the documentary, Ed said: “A series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art.”
