Viewers are convinced they’ve spotted Edward Norton's 'X-rated response' to losing Best Supporting Actor award

Oscars viewers are convinced that they've worked out what Edward Norton said after not winning an Oscar.

At pretty much all awards ceremonies, the nominees of an award flash up on the screen — both before and after the winner's announced.

While this is the perfect way to see a person's reaction to winning whichever accolade they're up for, it also shows how their fellow nominees react to losing.

Famously, Angela Bassett looked quite unimpressed when she lost out to Jamie Lee Curtis in 2023.

She recently reflected on her reaction from two years ago and admitted that she was 'gobsmacked'.

Speaking to Town & Country, Bassett said: "I found it interesting. Interesting that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving."

Bassett was up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther at the time.

Now Edward Norton seems to have had a similarly disappointed reaction to losing out on an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor last night.

Norton was up against the likes of Kieran Culkin and Guy Pearce in the category, with Culkin going on to win for his portrayal of Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain.

As Culkin walked off stage after his speech, the camera panned to show who else had been up for the award, with Norton appearing to mutter 'f**k'.

And viewers were quick to spot his X-rated reaction.

One person tweeted: "Did Edward Norton say f**k? I felt that. Did yall feel that?"

"I was just watching the Oscars and saw Ed Norton say F**k because he lost the Oscar to Kieran [Culkin]," said someone else. "Let us know how you really feel. He is p*ssed."

Another eagle-eyed viewer penned: "Ed Norton saying f**k and it getting caught on camera is immediately iconic."

Others sympathized with his apparent reaction in light of Norton having now lost out on four Oscar nominations.

Someone said: "Well it was kinda his last shot. He has the right to be a bit salty. An actor of his caliber, don’t u think?"

I mean, after four loses and I'd definitely be a bit jaded.

UNILAD has approached Norton's rep for comment.
