Oppenheimer star Emma Dumont comes out as trans masculine non-binary and reveals they have a new name

The 32-year-old actor has announced that they will go by a different name but will still retain their birth name for work purposes

Hollywood actor Emma Dumont has came out as trans masculine non-binary.

The 32-year-old will now go by they/them pronouns instead of the she/her, as well as announcing that their friends and family will now call them by a new name.

There is a lot of pressure to try and conform to the norms of society; we're supposed to act a certain way but what if that means lying to yourself and to your nearest and dearest of exactly who you are?

You've got to be true to yourself - even if that means swimming upstream, breaking the mold... and there will be people that won't like it, but as long as you live your life as you believe is true to yourself does it really matter?

I mean we saw Elliot Page, formerly Ellen Page - the Juno star, come out as a trans man in 2020. He was inundated with support throughout his journey, and rightfully so, but especially with his colleagues on The Umbrella Academy.

What I'm getting at is that it was tough for Page to come out in the way that he did, but he's living a happy life on his terms now... and Dumont is now no different.

Well, they're very much different but I mean they've both broke the mold!

Now, I know what you're thinking... with Dumont's new name change will we no longer see 'Emma Dumont' running across our screens in films that they feature in?

Dumont, who played Jackie Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's 2023 blockbuster drama Oppenheimer, has made the decision to keep their birth name only for work purposes - meaning any further productions the actor features in will still have their former name in the credits.

The change can be seen over on their Instagram page - in the bio of their account handle @emmadumont, it is featured alongside their new pronouns.

So, what name did Dumont decide on then?

They'll now go by Nick Dumont to friends and family, although they'll probably just call them Nick instead of their full title.

Now that they've said they're a Nick, you can kind of see it - their new look, messy short hair and cool short t-shirts really go with Dumont's new alias.

TMZ reported that their reps explained that Dumont will now 'identify as a trans masculine non-binary person’.

Adding: "Their work name is still going to be Emma Dumont, but they will go by Nick with friends and family."

Taking to Twitter to applaud their bold move, one person wrote: "Good for them!"

UNILAD has contacted Nick Dumont's representatives for comment.
