Joe Manganiello files for divorce from Sofía Vergara two days after announcing split

The Magic Mike actor made the legal filing after he and Vergara 'made the difficult decision to divorce'

True Blood and Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello has officially filed for divorce from Sofia Vergara after seven years of marriage.

News of Manganiello's legal filing comes after the couple confirmed in a statement released earlier this week that they had decided to go their separate ways.

Eagle-eyed fans began sharing concerns about the pair after Vergara travelled to Italy to celebrate her 51st birthday, with images from the trip showing no sign of Manganiello, and no sign of Vergara's wedding ring.

Manganiello's birthday post to his wife also sparked speculation, as he shared a snap of the couple and simply wrote: "¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!"

After reading the caption, one fan wrote: "Am I the only one who doesn’t like the way it sounds? “ Sofia”.... not even “ My love, My beloved wife” ...."

The couple confirmed they had 'made the difficult decision to divorce' in their statement on 17 July, adding: "As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

Yesterday (19 July), Manganiello officially filed for divorce in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Legal documents obtained by E! News revealed Manganiello had listed 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for their split, with the date of their separation given as 2 July, 2023.

Manganiello's filing also noted that he and Vergara, who has previously been named as the highest-paid actress in the world, had a prenuptial agreement in place.

He asked the court to confirm his and Vergara's separate property, including jewelry and earnings, and stated that each party planned to pay for their own attorney's fees.

Vergara first met Manganiello in 2014, when they were introduced by Vergara's Modern Family co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

Vergara was engaged to Nick Loeb at the time, but she began dating Manganiello after announcing her split from Loeb.

The couple married in 2015 in a ceremony in Florida, surrounded by hundreds of guests, including Manganiello's Magic Mike XXL co-star Channing Tatum, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Reese Witherspoon.

As she celebrated her birthday in Italy, her fellowModern Family actor Julie Bowen commented on one of her photos to say: "This is what single and [fire emoji] looks like!!!"

Vergara and Manganiello never welcomed any children together, though Vergara is mom to a 31-year-old son, Manolo.
