Kim Kardashian leaves US to get 'life-changing' surgery banned by the FDA

Kim Kardashian had to visit Mexico for the treatment

Kim Kardashian has left the US to get what she describes as 'life-changing' surgery that is banned by the FDA and not available in America.

The SKIMS founder took to Instagram on Friday (August 8) to reveal she recently traveled to Mexico to receive stem cell treatment, which can cost anywhere between $4,000 and $15,000, as per Global Stem Cell Therapy.

"However, this price can fluctuate based on the specific joint being treated and the complexity of your condition," the site adds.

Stem cell treatment essentially utilizes stem cells to repair or replace damaged tissues and organ, though risks involving weakening of the immune system are a cause for concern.

Kardashian penned on Instagram: "Two years ago, I tore my shoulder while lifting weights, leaving me in debilitating pain. I tried everything to find relief, then I learned about the potential of stem cell therapy and met Dr. Adeel Khan at Eterna.

"His team treated my shoulder with Dezawa Muse cells, and the results were immediate. I regained full range of motion, and my shoulder has felt completely normal ever since."

As a result, reality TV star decided to return to the treatment room amid ongoing issues with chronic back pain that she'd been dealing with for years.

She added: "I experienced relief right away, and the unbearable pain is finally gone. If you’re struggling with back pain, I can’t recommend this treatment enough - it’s transformed my life when I thought my body was breaking down.

"Of course, everyone is different, and I’m just sharing what has worked for me lately. Definitely do your own homework and talk to medical professionals."

Kardashian then touched on the fact the treatment is not available in the US amid concerns over its safety and long-term side affects.

"Since Muse stem cells aren’t yet accessible in the US, I had to travel to Mexico to be treated by Dr. Khan’s team," the SKIMS founder added.

"I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity and resources to pursue this healing, and I pray the science continues to evolve so more people can benefit."

And Kardashian concluded the lengthy Instagram post with: "Here’s to hope, healing, and the future of science."

It comes after Kardashian's brand debuted a face wrap - a controversial new addition to her SKIMS shape-wear range.

Branded as the 'Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap' and apparently worth a staggering $48, the new product - which is to be worn overnight - promises chiselled cheekbones and a snatched jaw.

Not everyone was happy with the addition to SKIMS line, with British TV host Katie Piper comparing the face wrap to the same bandages she had to wear after being the victim of an acid attack, orchestrated by her ex boyfriend.

Piper said: "So when I saw this latest offering from them for women, I was just like, oh my God. No, please, people - don't imprison your face in this contraption. Don't be so cruel and unkind to your face."
