Shannen Doherty made a heartbreaking final post online before passing away from cancer at age 53.

The star of Charmed had previously shared updates around her treatment plan for cancer, describing how she would be starting another round of chemotherapy.

Doherty was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015, and she confirmed that she had 'invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node'.

After undergoing multiple surgeries and treatment, the 90210 star went into remission following her initial diagnosis before the cancer came back.

In 2020, she made the heartbreaking announcement that she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

This is a very advanced stage where the cancer has spread from its original location to many places around the body.

In 2023, the Charmed actor revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain and her bones, leading her to undergo surgery which removed 'almost all' of the tumor from her brain.

In her last social media post, Doherty shared a clip from the Let's Be Clear podcast to her Instagram page.

She opened up about her journey, as well as her feelings of uncertainty about the future.

In the clip, she said: "So, you know, for the first time in I have no idea how long, I'm going to be on chemo for I have no idea if it's going to be, you know, three months or if its going to be six months or if we are going, you know, if after three months if it's not working if we're going to change again."

Doherty added: "Like, I don't really, that's not something that I can predict. It's not something my doctors can predict and it's scary.

"It's like a big wake up call at the same time I got to say that there is some positivity there and the positivity is that because my molecular structure of my cancer cells changed recently.

"It means that there's a lot more protocols for me to try. So, you know, for the first time in a couple months probablyI feel hopeful because there are so many more protocols now.

"Whereas before I was hopeful but I was still getting prepared."

Yesterday (July 14), Doherty's death was confirmed in a statement by her publicist, which read: "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty.

"On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.

"The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."
