The daughter of actor John Amos revealed that she only found out about her father's 'heartbreaking' passing through media reports.
Shannon Amos shared that she was 'without words' after she learned that Amos had died through a social media post.
The star of Coming to America and Good Times died at his home in Los Angeles on August 24.

A statement posted by Amos' son KC Amos read: “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.
“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life.
"His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
Now Shannon has posted a statement of her own online. Taking to her social media pages, she wrote: "I am without words...Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st.

"We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you."
She added: "This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing mv father is finally free.
"My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts.

"Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you."
Prior to his death Amos was working on a documentary series called America's Dad, a project he had shared with K.C. for several years.
Speaking to PEOPLE in 2024, he said: "Having my own son working with me as a filmmaker, it's a blessing because we can capture these moments of inspiration.

"It covers my career, his career, our joint careers. And it's something that I think every father and son will want to see."
Amos reportedly died of natural causes, although his official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
