Scarlett Johansson has revealed she visited Jeremy Renner in hospital, fearing it would be the last time she saw the Marvel actor.
Joined by her former co-star Chris Evans, the Avengers assembled after Renner was involved in a horrific accident involving a snow plough.
Though the visit was kept secret at the time, the Black Widow actor has finally spoken about how she feared for her friend’s life.
Prior to the accident, Renner had been spending the holiday with his family in Tahoe, when the 7-ton Sno-cat started to roll towards the actor’s nephew, Alex.

In an act of bravery on a par with the Avengers, the 52-year-old saved the little boy but suffered near-fatal injuries including 30 broken bones, a collapsed lung and a blunt chest trauma.
His ribs took the brunt of the damage though, with eight of them broken into 14 pieces during the New Year’s Day accident.
After being crushed by the vehicle, the Hawkeye star was airlifted to hospital where he began to make his gradual recovery.
Not satisfied with becoming a real-life superhero, the MCU actor was released just 17 days later, despite admitting that he was ‘outside my brain fog in recovery’ on Twitter.

Though he only had a short stint in hospital, his Avengers co-stars made sure they assembled (see what we did there) to check in on Renner.
Johansson had been filming her upcoming movie, Project Artemis, with Channing Tatum on the day of the accident, and admits she was ‘very upset’ as she woke to the news, desperately wanting to see him despite him being in a critical condition.
When she finally did get to see the Marvel actor, Johansson was shocked by how well he’d recovered.

“I was honestly so f**king happy to see him. I didn’t know if I was ever going to see him again. To not only see him again but to see him thriving and in such an amazing space, mentally,” she told Variety, adding: “We laughed a lot.”
Chris Evans echoed her comments as he spoke about the secret visit, saying that there were ‘no tears at all’ but just ‘a lot of laughs and smiles and hugs’.
He joked: “Leave it to Jeremy to take something this potentially tragic and turn it into something so inspiring.”

Whilst Renner might be an inspiration to millions, it hasn’t stopped the Tag star from being teased by his former colleagues.
According to Johansson, the actor was constantly ribbed in the Avengers group chat – which includes the original six Avengers — Johansson, Evans, Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.
“On the Avengers text chain, we’re like, ‘OK, you beat us all. That’s it. You won,’" she joked, adding: “That’s like real superhero stuff. It’s unbelievable.”
